I Got My Mind Set On You - George Harrison

For me to be better understood as a writer, I believe it is necessary for my readers to know a little bit about myself. I think knowing some of my background information will better help put my writing in context and ultimately help my readers understand my writing.

I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. I have lived in this city for most of my life, along with my six brothers and sisters. I like living here very much and I consider this city my home.

In 2010, I enrolled as a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. At first, I was not sure what my interests were, what I wanted to major in, and ultimately what I wanted to become. I eventually started to discover my strentgths and what topics of study that I was interested in. I began to take history courses and I discovered that I enjoyed studying history very much. I studied both U.S history and history related to other countries. It is when I began studying the history of other nations and cultures that I discovered I wanted to major in international studies. This has been my major for three years now and I have enjoyed every class that I have taken at UNCC since then. I knew choosing this major would improve my understanding of other people, cultures, languages, religions, etc. I did not konw that choosing this major would eventually send me half way around the world twice in a row during my college career.

When I chose international relations as my major, I was told that I had to choose a foreign language of study. Since I was not good at any language other than English, I decided to choose the most interesting langugae I could find. I chose to study the Russian language and that is the language that I have been studying ever since my freshman year.

Another requirement that I had to fulfill in order to graduate was to study abraod in a foreign country for at least a semester.  Naturally I chose Russia since that was the languge I was studying. I ended up spending the spring semester of my junior year studying Russian language and history in Moscow at Moscow University for the Humanities.

Ever since my first visit to Russia, I have become very interested in Russian culture, politics, and business and I study these subjects daily in addition to the Russian language. Almost as soon as I returned from my first trip, I was planning on when I would leave for Russia again. I got the opportunity to study the Russian language on a more intensive level at Moscow State University. There I also studied Russian politics, history, and economy more in depth.

In conclusion, I like to study topics that interest me. That is why I study Russian language, history and culture. I also study Russian politics the country's economy from and international relations stand point. Other interests of mine you can find reflected in my portfolio  Comedy is a big interest of mine. I love watching stand-up comedy and funny movies/shows, My favorite comical actor is Will Ferrell. I also like to study current international political events happening form day to day. Anything that is either foreign or international interests me, This includes languaes. I like studying other languges. I am currently studying Russian and once I become fluent, I want to keep learnig new languages. I am also a fan of sports. I like football and basketball. MY favorite sport to watch and take part in is boxing. I enjoy watching movies that make provoke me to think about certain ideas or concepts. Finally, I love history and topics related to the history of other countries.

When I listed my various interests on this page, writing was not one of them. This is not because I hate the concept of writing or because I want to belittle those who enjoy writing. I actually feel the opposite. Anyone who either enjoys or is skilled at writing has my respect because I find writing to be a very difficult process. I have had some sucess with writing a few research papers, but that is about it. I have very little experience sharing my opinion, writing on a personal level or being creative with my writing. I will admit that I was nervous about this class even before the first day I walked in.  I don't really consider myself as a creative writer with an awesome imagination like that of Stephen King or J.R.R Tolkien. I still want to use this course as an opportunity to improve the way I think and approach writing because writing is something that I will need to be improve on, to some extent, sooner or later.
